About
Benjamin Morris is a contemporary artist based in Norfolk, UK.
He has lived in Norfolk his whole life where he originally trained as a painter
and decorator in his teenage years. He then went on to become the owner
of a decorating centre in his hometown.
His passion for art has grown over the years. The abundance of materials
that surrounds him in his work has given him the means to experiment with
different mediums and styles, where he has had the opportunity to pursue
and develop quirky and playful skills as an artist.
Benjamin takes inspiration from some of his favourite artists such as
Jean Dubuffet, Joan Miro and Jackson Pollock. Working with memories
from the subconscious and combining them with social topics, black
abstract and figurative shapes mark the beginning of his work and
then when the paint slaps meet the drips, free-flowing and unplanned
images start to form. The random manipulation of these images is when
the characters and doodles come out of the abstraction. From a distance,
the art depicts contemporary forms and shapes but it's not until you are
closer that you are then drawn into an explosion of another world full of
the bizarre, macabre and occasionally adorable and cute doodles.
Benjamin's work explores the psychological projection of the human shadow (reality tunnel), which is something that follows everyone and should be liberated.
Come and 'meet your shadow'. - BM
